This isn’t just about translating one message but it’s a fast, automatic tool that helps you chat smoothly with friends, family, or coworkers – even if they speak a different language. Aiming to break down language barriers for its 3+ billion users worldwide.
How Does it Work?
- Long-press any message and tap “Translate” to instantly convert it into your preferred language.
- Works across 1:1 chats, group conversations, and Channel updates.
- Android users can enable automatic translation for entire chat threads, future messages will be translated by default.
Language Support
- Android: Initially supports 6 languages – English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.
- iPhone: Supports 19+ languages, including French, German, Japanese, Mandarin.
Privacy First
All translations happen on your device (WhatsApp cannot see your messages). You will need to download language packs for offline use.
Feature Rollout Status
- The feature is gradually rolling out to Android and iOS users.
- Not yet available on Windows or Web versions, but Meta recommends keeping your app updated to receive it as soon as possible.
