Apple launched the new iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max at its big “Awe Dropping” event on September 9. This new phone look different, work faster, and take better photos. If you are thinking about switching from the iPhone 16 Pro to the 17 Pro, here’s a quick comparison to help you decide.
The biggest difference between the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max is size. The Max has a larger screen and battery. But everything else is mostly the same, so this comparison works for both models iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Design and display:
The biggest change in the iPhone 17 Pro is how it looks. For many years, iPhones had a simple square-shaped camera area. But now, Apple has given the 17 Pro a brand-new design that looks very different from before. Both the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max now have a wide, rectangle-shaped camera area that stretches across the back of the phone. The cameras are placed the same way as last year. Below this big camera section, there’s another rectangle with the Apple logo inside it.
The iPhone 17 Pro has a new aluminum body, while the 16 Pro used titanium. Both have the same 6.3-inch display, but the 17 Pro is brighter outdoors (3,000 nits vs 2,000 nits). It also has stronger screen protection with Ceramic Shield 2, which is three times more scratch-resistant. The back is tougher too.
Camera
The iPhone 17 Pro has a better 18MP selfie camera (up from 12MP) and a big upgrade to the zoom lens, now 48MP with 8x optical zoom and up to 40x digital zoom. It also adds new video tools like ProRes RAW, Log 2, and Genlock for pro-level shooting. Plus, you can record with both front and back cameras at the same time using Dual Capture.
Battery and storage
The iPhone 17 Pro lasts longer up to 33 hours of video playback, compared to 27 hours on the 16 Pro. It has a bigger battery and a more efficient A19 chip. Plus, it now starts with 256GB storage, double the 128GB in the 16 Pro.
Performance
The iPhone 17 Pro has a faster A19 chip, which is 40% better than the A18 in the 16 Pro. Both chips have the same CPU and GPU, but the A19 adds new Neural Accelerators. The 17 Pro is also said to have more RAM – 12GB vs 8GB, but that’s not confirmed yet.
iPhone 17 Pro vs 16 Pro: Is It Worth the Upgrade?
The iPhone 17 Pro brings big changes new look, faster chip, better zoom camera, and a stronger screen. If you love taking photos or want a phone that’s faster and lasts longer, it’s a good upgrade. But if you mostly use your phone for chatting, watching videos, or browsing, you might not notice much difference except the design.
The price starts at ₹1,34,900, which is higher than the iPhone 16 Pro’s ₹1,19,900. But the new one gives you 256GB storage, while the same storage in the 16 Pro cost ₹1,29,900.
